Rahmede Viaduct (Lüdenscheid, Germany)

Since December 2021, Rahmede viaduct – and consequently the entire section of the A45 highway – has been closed to all traffic. With the aim of constructing the new Rahmede viaduct as quickly as possible, MCE and its consortium partners were awarded the contract in July 2023.

The complete demolition of Rahmede viaduct interrupted an essential section of the A45 highway in Germany. The replacement bridge, designed as a composite steel structure, was planned to be constructed using the incremental launching method within less than three years. In order to meet the demanding schedule, construction is progressing simultaneously from both abutments. Together with its consortium partners HABAU and Bickhardt Bau, MCE is raising the bar to meet the project requirements. Rahmede viaduct consists of a five-span composite steel structure with steel box girders and lateral cantilevers, completed with a reinforced concrete deck slab. The maximum span between the concrete piers is 108 m.
