In 2023, MCE was awarded the contract for the construction of six replacement motorway bridges as part of the six-lane expansion of the motorway A43. The effected construction covers the section between the Herne interchange and the Recklinghausen-Hochlarmark junction.
Each lane includes a bridge section approximately 1,100 meters long, consisting of three consecutive bridge structures. The bridge section begins with a single-span steel truss bridge crossing the Deutsche Bahn railway line, with a span of 140.00 meters. At the opposite end, a single-span steel girder bridge crosses the Rhine-Herne Canal with a span of 93.60 meters. Between these two structures, multi-span composite deck bridges span the Emscher River — measuring 173.60 meters in the eastern direction and 113.40 meters in the western direction.
The construction site is located in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, right next to several ongoing and completed projects of MCE. In the immediate vicinity, the striking DB arched bridges over the A4 (railway bridges Herne) were recently completed.
The scope of services of MCE includes the planning, manufacturing and installation of two steel truss bridges and four steel composite bridges with a total weight of approximately 8,680 tons.
